X App, owned by Elon Musk, expands features with free video and phone calls for all users. This move, previously exclusive to X Premium subscribers, increases competition with services like Meta’s WhatsApp.
X App Calling Feature
Initially, users can only receive calls from accounts they follow or have in their contacts, and both accounts must have previously interacted via direct message. However, users have the flexibility to adjust their settings to allow calls from anyone on the platform.
Last year, X introduced its calling feature as a premium perk for iOS users. The Elon Musk-led company broadened access to Android Premium subscribers earlier this year, finally making it available to all users.
Making Calls on X:
- 1. Launch and Navigate: Open the X app on your Android or iOS device and head to the Direct Messages (DM) section.
- 2. Initiate a Call: Locate the desired contact and open the DM thread. Tap the phone icon and choose either “Audio Call” or “Video Call” to start the call. The recipient will be notified of your attempt.
- 3. Manage Call Settings: To control who can call you, access “Settings” in the top right corner and adjust your preferences within the “Direct Messages” section.
This expansion of X’s calling feature marks a significant step towards fostering deeper engagement and connection within the platform. It will be interesting to see how users embrace this new functionality and how it shapes the overall X experience in the future.
